Easy Access Bookmarks at Your Fingertips


Having to save multiple websites for work or personal purposes can get quite tedious after a while.  Although an average number of bookmarks per person can be estimated at over 50-60 per year (quora.com), many avid readers can rack up to over 100 favorite websites and even more.

If you have no time to try out several online bookmarking services (and don’t want to add another unnecessary bookmark), one simple solution is to use a feature that is already built-in on your browser: your bookmark folders.

You can organize your favorite websites into bookmark folders for easy access. Here are simple steps on how you can get organized fast:

 

Google Chrome

 

 

  1. Make sure that your bookmarks bar is visible.  To do this, hover on your browser navigation, right click on your mouse, and select “Show bookmarks bar” from the drop down list.  A check symbol next to an option indicates the option is active.

 

  1. Right click on the bookmarks bar and select “Add folder…”

 

  1. Follow instructions to add your new folder.  If you have a lot of bookmarks and your new folder is not visible on the bookmarks bar, search for your newly created folder by clicking on the >> symbol.  (If you cannot find it there, search under the “Other bookmarks” folder.)

 

  1. Drag your new folder into your desired location on the bookmarks bar for easy access.  

 

  1. Moving forward, make sure you are saving future favorites into the correct folders.

 

  1. You can create several folders and drag and drop your favorites to keep them organized.

 

Mozilla Firefox

 

 

  1. Make sure that your bookmarks toolbar is visible.  To do this, hover on your browser navigation, right click on your mouse, and select “Bookmarks toolbar” from the drop down list.  A “check” symbol next to an option indicates the option is active.

 

  1. Right click on the bookmarks bar and select “New folder…”

 

  1. Follow instructions to add your new folder.  

 

  1. Drag your new folder (if needed) to your desired location on the bookmarks bar for easy access.

  1.  Make sure that your bookmarks toolbar is visible.  To do this, locate the “…” symbol on the navigation bar or hit Alt+X on your keyboard.

 

  1.  On the drop down menu, locate “Settings”.

 

  1.  On the General tab, set “Show the favorites bar” to “On” position.

 

  1.  Hit the favorites icon, which looks like a star.

 

  1.  Create a new folder.

 

  1. Drag your new folder (if needed) to your desired location on the favorites bar for easy access.  

 

  1. Moving forward, make sure you are saving future favorites into the correct folders. If your favorite website is added into the favorites bar, you can drag and drop it into a folder.

 

  1. You can create several folders and drag and drop your favorites to keep them organized.

 

Our Experiment

 

With at total count of 128 favorite websites currently saved on the bookmarks bar, we timed how long it would take to organize all 128 sites into bookmarks folders.

Creating 16 folders and arranging them on the bookmarks bar took us a little over 5 minutes, and dragging each favorite website into the appropriate folder took 9 minutes.  In less than 15 minutes, we organized 128 favorite websites on easily accessible folders.

Minimizing the amount of clicks required to find your favorite websites, can contribute to more efficient ways of keeping your workstation clean and user-friendly.

Carmen Nazario was named 8A Graduate of the Year at SBA Portland’s 2017 Small Business Week Awards Luncheon.

May 3, 2017 (Portland, Oregon) — Carmen Nazario, Founder and President of ELYON International, Inc. was named 2017 8(a) Graduate of the Year at Small Business Administration (SBA) Portland’s Small Business Week Awards Luncheon.  Nazario is a U.S. Army veteran from Puerto Rico.  Her father worked in the newspaper business and she dreamed of one day, touching the lives of others in her own way.

“Life is an adventure and you live a greater adventure when you are willing to take more risks,” reads the legacy in Carmen Nazario’s high school year book.   Though she didn’t have a crystal ball, Carmen’s quote selection would be foretelling of her future.  While attending a university in her native home of Puerto Rico, she decided to take her first big risk. She followed in the footsteps of her father, a World War II Veteran, and joined the U.S. Army, hoping to see the world.  Carmen served as a computer programmer during the Vietnam War; gaining skills that much later would help her establish her own company.  After leaving the Army, she attended school, earned her Bachelor’s degree and worked as an Information Technology professional.

Nearly 20 years later, Carmen took another huge risk.  As a single mother of three she decided to start her own business in the field she knew best, software development and consulting.  Today her company, ELYON International, Inc. has more than 80 employees working across seven states, and serves government and Fortune 500 companies.  In addition to participating in the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program, Nazario grew her business with assistance from the SBA Veteran Business Outreach Center and SCORE counseling.

Nazario was also selected as the SBA Region 10 8(a) Graduate of the Year among winners from the Pacific Northwest including Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.  She was one of 10 finalists for the SBA National 8(a) Graduate of the Year.

Each spring the SBA recognizes small businesses across the country during National Small Business Week (NSBW).  2017 winners were recognized during the SBA Portland District’s annual awards luncheon  on May 3 at the Portland Art Museum.
